This Privacy Policy explains what information CaseTree collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies whenever you use CaseTree, whether signed in or as a guest.
Account information. Handled by our authentication provider, Clerk: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, LinkedIn, or Microsoft, your name and avatar from that provider. We never see or store your password.
Case and tree data. The case prompts you submit (typed or from an uploaded PDF), the AI-generated issue trees, coaching scores, and Practice Mode answers/feedback tied to your saved trees.
Forum content. Posts, comments, and likes you make on Case Garden.
Practice-partner profile. Only if you opt in to Find a Case Partner: a display name, timezone, experience level, and target firms/roles, which other opted-in users can see.
Payment information. If you subscribe to Eden, our payment processor, Stripe, collects your card details directly — we never receive or store full card numbers, only your subscription status and billing history.
Usage data. How many trees you've generated (to enforce plan limits), basic device/browser information, and preferences you set in Settings (theme, default detail level, notification and privacy toggles).
When you generate a tree, request follow-up questions, or use Practice Mode, the relevant case text and tree content is sent to our AI provider (DeepSeek) to produce the response. Avoid including personal or confidential information you wouldn't want processed by a third-party AI model in your case prompts.
We share information with the service providers that run CaseTree on our behalf:
If you opt in to partner matching, your display name, timezone, experience level, and target firms are visible to other opted-in users. We don't sell your personal information, and we only share it beyond the above with your consent, to comply with the law, or to protect the rights and safety of CaseTree and its users.
We use a small number of cookies and browser local-storage entries: a session cookie from Clerk to keep you signed in, an anonymous identifier for guests so daily generation limits can be enforced without an account, your theme preference, and whether you've dismissed the tutorial or the Instagram follow prompt. We don't use third-party advertising trackers.
We keep your account, tree, and forum data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account from Settings → Account, your trees, forum posts, comments, and partner-matching history are permanently deleted; some records may be retained briefly where required for billing, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
Most of your privacy controls are self-serve, in Settings:
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or export your personal information beyond what's available in Settings. Contact us at info@casetree.net to make a request.
CaseTree isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
CaseTree is hosted and processed on infrastructure that may be located outside your country of residence. By using the service, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in other countries, which may have different data protection laws than your own.
We rely on our service providers' security practices (encryption in transit, access controls) to protect your information, and we never store full payment card numbers or your account password ourselves. No system is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date above.
